Bank of Scotland Treasury is the central provider of funding, liquidity and financial markets products and services to the wider HBOS Group and its customers, both in the UK and globally.

What you'll be doing

As a graduate within the Treasury business you will be an active member of the team from day one and will get involved with the day to day activities within the specific department. For instance, the graduates on the Sales scheme will get client–side exposure from an early stage, meeting clients with senior colleagues and preparing market analysis. Graduates on the Trading Scheme will work alongside traders, building an in–depth understanding of the markets and the skills required to trade successfully.

Graduates on our Treasury schemes undertake a range of development activities, beginning with an intensive three week technical training programme covering the workings of the financial markets and the range of financial products that we use. After this induction, Front Office and Risk graduates will spend time with other areas of Treasury, gaining an understanding of the links across the business. After completion of the initial rotations, Front Office graduates will be given a twelve month placement on a specific desk. Technology graduates move directly onto a Technology–specific programme, whilst Risk graduates will gain an understanding of Market/Credit Risk and the associated impact on the business.

Your development

Each graduate is allocated a dedicated mentor and a buddy, who, along with the HR Business Partner, and Learning & Development Advisor will provide advice and support to you throughout your graduate placement.

In order to aid your development, formal training will be provided, such as the opportunity for Front Office graduates to study for the FSA/CFA qualifications whilst Risk and Technology graduates will attend recognised technical courses.

To further enhance your skill set, soft skills training will be delivered throughout your first year placement and will include, amongst others, Sales Skills, Presentation Skills, Communication Skills, Influencing Skills, and Report Writing Skills. You will also have access to more generic training (both internal and external) on the Treasury business and Financial Markets.

What you'll achieve

Graduates must have achieved or be expecting a 2:1 or above in a numerate, business or IT related discipline, dependant upon the business area which you are applying to. You should be a dedicated, focused team player with excellent communication skills, a high degree of business awareness and a keen, demonstrable interest in the Financial Markets.

By the end of the scheme, graduates will have benefited from extensive internal and external training, will have a sound understanding of their specific area and the wider business. Our graduates will also have had the opportunity to build on their communication and presentation skills whilst developing a high degree of business acumen. Most importantly, graduates within Treasury will get the opportunity to work with and learn from senior city professionals in an environment where such development and high achievement is actively encouraged.
