Marketing
Marketing is the key to creating strong products, and to making sure people are aware of all the great things we offer. With over 22 million customers, we face some exciting challenges. With that in mind, this scheme is designed to turn you into a highly skilled marketing professional and give you the opportunity to work with some of the UK's best–known financial brands. Even better, you'll be working in a lively part of our business where new challenges crop up every day.
What you'll be doing
You'll gain exposure to two distinct areas of our marketing department: the brands HBOS is known for and our advertising campaigns. As part of a team, you'll help create and implement campaigns across the full marketing mix, and get involved with media and creative agencies. As part of Customer Insights, you'll carry out research to help us gain a better understanding of the marketplace and learn what brands and products appeal to customers.
Your development
This scheme is right for graduates that want to learn about all key areas of marketing and build a career in this field. You'll receive in–house training for your professional development as well as opportunities to refine your ability to deliver presentations and communicate with a wider audience. There's also the opportunity to study for qualifications like the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Study leave and the financial support you need to cover examination fees and subscription costs are definitely on offer. You'll also be assigned a mentor who will offer career advise and a line manager to look after your day–to–day progress.
What you'll achieve
Over the course of the scheme, you'll gain an impressive level of technical marketing experience and build successful relationships with creative and media agencies. You'll also increase your product knowledge and achieve a clear understanding of research and response analysis. When you reach the end of the scheme, you'll be in a position to progress into a campaign or marketing manager role. And, with growth like ours, you can be absolutely certain you'll continue to grow and take on fresh professional challenges within HBOS.

Products & Marketing
In Products & Marketing, we develop the investment products that keep HBOS on top of a competitive market. Whether you're thinking of pensions, ISAs, mutual funds, or bonds our job is to define, develop and market products that will help our customers build and protect their wealth. From business strategy to pricing and the best campaigns around, we're always one step ahead. We offer outstanding creativity combined with best technical expertise to keep building one of the UK's biggest investment businesses.
We've split our business into functional specialisations:
- Business Development – leads on strategy and defining our products
- Product Development – has the technical and delivery expertise to design and produce products
- Marketing Operations – ensures that our products have exceptional campaigns and marketing execution
Clerical Medical International, our offshore business based in the Isle of Man, is also under our umbrella.
What you'll be doing
On this programme, our graduates work in different business areas to build up a broad mix of skills and knowledge. So, what you do depends on where you are. For example, as part of our Marketing Operations team, you'll help create and implement campaigns across the full marketing mix as you work alongside creative agencies and media. If you're part of our Business Development team, you'll prepare marketing briefs and liaise with research agencies to increase customer understanding and determine the insights that drive our product plans. You might also spend time with parts of the business that we work closely with including our sales channels. In all, you'll work with at least two of the core Products & Marketing functions.
Your development
We'll offer you a range of study and training opportunities. You could decide to undertake professional qualifications connected to either the Chartered Institute of Marketing or the Chartered Institute of Insurance (Financial Services). Study leave and the financial support you need to cover examination fees and subscription costs are definitely on offer. What's more, internal courses will increase your knowledge of our products and the industry as a whole, as well as refine your ability to communicate and lead.
What you'll achieve
We work hard to find and develop HBOS's future leaders. That includes making certain you gain a strong understanding of the saving and investment industry as well as knowledge of the HBOS Group. Building a network of business contacts will also be an important goal and you can expect to receive the encouragement you need to complete further professional qualifications. At the end of the scheme, you'll have a clear picture where you want to take your career at HBOS. You could choose Strategy, Proposition Development, Product Development or Marketing Communications and, with that in mind, you can expect to take on a role that offers both responsibility and autonomy. You could play a central role in planning and delivering campaigns or be instrumental in building the case for new products. You might even help determine exactly how we deliver our next generation of products. In time, you might take on a leadership position and help prepare HBOS for a profitable future.
