There are over 74,000 people working for HBOS. And within that number, there's a remarkable range of skills and specialities, as well as personalities and ambitions. That's why it's vital we bring together the individual aspirations of our colleagues and the needs and demands of our fast–changing business.

What you'll be doing

The scheme involves you completing a number of different placements, where you'll handle real HR issues in a live environment. A typical placement might see you joining Employee Relations, and working with unions, business areas and colleagues to define people strategies. Or, you could work with one of our operational HR teams to ensure that we meet HR and our wider business objectives.

Your development

Over the course of your placements, you'll develop a good understanding of our business, along with the ability to think strategically, analyse results and drive through change programmes. Your line–manager will help you on a day–to–day basis and your Programme Manager will oversee your placements. You'll also be working toward your CIPD qualification and, with the help of a mentor, you'll pursue the experiences and training that will keep you engaged and growing with us.

What you'll achieve

As you progress, you'll gain a wider understanding of our business and of the people strategy that underpins our growth. You'll also help to drive through change programmes and increase your understanding of how you could develop others. Developing personal skills like communication, influencing, negotiating, team working, and coaching will all be part of becoming a competent HR practitioner. When you complete our scheme, you'll probably have gained the knowledge and resources you need to take on a HR business partner role in one of HBOS' many business areas.
