This scheme will give you hands–on exposure to all areas of financial management in HBOS. At the same time, you'll earn your CIMA or ICAS qualification, depending on the area you work in. Alongside broad professional challenges, you'll get involved in reporting, business finance and decision support as well as a wide range of projects. For a setting as diverse as this one, we'll look for graduates with commercial drive, sound communications skills and the willingness to learn.
What you'll be doing
Through a series of placements in finance roles, you'll gain exposure to a range of different teams. There are three distinct business areas:
- Retail Finance – here we focus on providing high quality, proactive and cost effective financial and business accounting services to our retail business. Financial controls are just as important as building strong partnerships.
- Insurance & Investment – the finance function plays a key role in ensuring this business continues to succeed. Finance business partners support the planning for new business propositions, financial performance forecasting for the division and ensuring proper financial controls and systems are in place.
- Group Finance – this part of our business provides the operational framework for running HBOS. It encompasses financial systems, planning and forecasting as well as providing a high quality professional finance support service to our customers.
Your development
To help you get the most out of your time on the scheme, we'll provide you with a tailored development programme, and you'll be assigned your own personal mentor to offer advice and guidance. Completing your CIMA or ICAS qualification will definitely be part of your programme and you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn about a diverse financial services organisation.
What you'll achieve
During the scheme, you'll develop strong technical skills as you gain an understanding of HBOS and the wider financial sector. But more than that, you'll increase your personal confidence, the ability to work in a team and take on management responsibilities. At the end of the programme, alongside an accountancy qualification, you'll have a solid network of contacts within HBOS. Not only will you be ready for an accountancy role, you'll be working on the management skills that will support your ambitions.
