Duration:
Four to seven years, based on the average time taken to qualify.
Minimum Requirements:
2:1 degree in a numerate or scientific discipline and A–Level in Mathematics at Grade C or above. Alternatively, any 2:1 degree combined with an A–Level in Mathematics at Grade A.
Qualifications:
you'll work towards the Diploma in Actuarial Techniques and become a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Here, we train Actuaries who have the potential to become our senior managers of the future. Graduates on our scheme gain exposure to a wide range of areas of the financial management of HBOS Financial Services as they earn their professional qualifications.
What you'll be doing
It usually takes between four and seven years to complete your actuarial qualifications. While you train, you'll work in a variety of teams. For example, you could be analysing profit results or pricing a new product. Trainees are rotated every eighteen months to two years, giving you plenty of opportunity to build specific business–related skills.
Your development
In total, there are fifteen actuarial exams. All course materials are self–taught and you can expect generous paid study leave as well as financial support in covering examination fees, materials and subscription costs. Tutorials are also on offer. Your personal mentor will give you the guidance you need to make the most of your opportunities and the encouragement of senior team members will also prove invaluable. Alongside technical training, you'll also benefit from courses that refine your presentation and communication skills
What you'll achieve
As your actuarial skills increase, you'll build–on your knowledge of concepts and techniques with practical on–the–job experience. you'll also improve your understanding of the industry in general and HBOS in particular and develop your ability to make sound financial judgements and recommendations. you'll also build management and leadership skills as you progress. After passing the first nine exams, you'll be awarded a Diploma in Actuarial Techniques. Once you've passed all fifteen exams and completed at least three years' work experience, you'll become a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. As opportunities arise, you can expect to move to different actuarial roles and continue your progress within HBOS.
