Making sure work is worthwhile "When it comes to choosing a long–term career, I've always thought the most important thing to consider is enjoyment. If you find something you like doing, it makes it so much easier to get out of bed in the morning! That's why I joined the scheme at HBOS and undertook further studies. The support is great. No matter where you are on the scheme, you can still ask your manager, supervisor or another surveyor for advice. I've now finished the scheme, but I still get great support from colleagues. Also, you have the freedom to manage your own workload, so if I need to leave earlier than usual I can get a jump on the day by getting an early start."

"Not only did I get all the support I needed, I really find what I do satisfying."

People and training – a great combination "My graduate scheme gave me everything I needed to reach my goal, from training courses and benchmarking tests to hands–on practical experience in valuation and property defects and structural problems. The people in the office where I work are also really supportive. When I first arrived, I was greeted with plenty of enthusiasm, and I'm happy to say that's something which has continued. The variety is also a real plus. I meet new people every day and inspect a wide variety of properties – as many as four a day. When I come back to the office, a valuation assistant is there to help me write up the report. And because Colleys is part of HBOS, there's no shortage of work either. That means there are loads of opportunities to earn bonuses – and that's something else worth getting out of bed for each morning."
