Starting out in the deep end. "In 2004, I joined the Retail Graduate Training Programme. I was immediately put into a wide range of different roles, sometimes managing more than ten people. It was an incredibly steep learning curve and the experience has been invaluable – it really helped me discover my strengths and what I could do in HBOS.

"I've had a lot of responsibilities... and great opportunities."

The best career move yet. " In August 2006, I joined Group Internal Audit. It was the right decision for me. I was quickly integrated into the department. My language skills have really been invaluable and resulted in my assignment to the Strategy & International Team. Here, I've gained insights into the business. During a typical week, I might visit different parts of the UK or travel abroad. I've also had the chance to do consultancy work for various business areas. Good communication is part of being a good auditor and really makes a difference when it comes to winning the respect of senior managers.
